In the year 2012, around 52,100 jobs were available for insulation contractors. The job was known to split between 3 types of insulators namely; mechanical insulators and floors, wall insulators and ceiling. Out of these majority of ceiling, wall and floor insulators were offered a job in the insulation and drywall contractor industry. Majority of mechanical insulators in the year 2012 were employed in the following:

Plumbing, air-conditioning and heating contractors – 15%

Other building equipment contractors – 38%

Drywall and Insulation contractors – 22%

Insulation workers or contractors often work indoors inside the environment of residential and industrial. They have to spend their workday by kneeling, standing or bending in different spaces.

Work Schedules – Majority of insulators are required to work full time. However, insulators dealing with pipelines and gas have to work depending on the weather. This means, they will be working during clear weather and have to stop during rains, storms etc.

Injuries and Illnesses – Working as an insulation contractor does not involve danger. However, insulators are required to be careful from cuts from a knife or fall from a ladder. Moreover, insulation material if entered into the eyes, lungs or skin can cause irritation and therefore, the insulator needs to work carefully. And by carefully, means the worker needs to wear protective equipment such as respirators, masks, and suits. These equipment’s offer protection to the insulator during the time of their work. This is because, mechanical insulators have higher chance of getting burns from pipes during the time of insulation.

Based on the work environment, there are insulators working in glass wool heat insulation department as well.
